Useful organisations

Here are some of organisations you may find useful if you want to find out more about cycling.

Transport for London has free maps designed specically for cyclists. There’s lots of other things to look at on the site too.

Sustrans is a sustainable travel charity which is involved in setting up the national cycle network, including some pleasant routes through London, away from the roads where possible. You can buy maps from their site.

The London Cycling Campaign represents the voice and interests of cyclists. They have a local group in each borough which can be a great contact when you are first starting out and trying to do a bit more cycling. Lambeth Cyclists for example provide bike maintenance classes and free monthly rides. Or perhaps Croydon Cyclists are more local to you. Check here for other local groups.

You can find out about other free rides at Central London CTC or at South West London CTC if you live in the South West of London. Their rides tend to be for people who are quite experienced cyclists but they run some regular pleasant short rides too. They are a local group of the national Cycling Tourists Club which represents cyclists in the UK.

Here are the disability-related pages of British Cycling, which manages paralympic cycling.
